Candidate must be a registered to voter in the city of the office sought at time of filing, must have resided in the city for at least one 1 year before the date of the general election.

- No filing fee. No signature requirement for Democratic, Republican, or Libertarian Candidates. However, candidate must file a declaration of candidacy and statement of economic interest (CAN-12) with the county election board. For Independent and minor party candidates signature requirement is 2% of the total votes cast for secretary of state at the last election held for that office in the district the candidate seeks to represent.
