About this position
Inferior retention court Judges are responsible for adjudicating cases in Civil and Criminal Courts at the trial-level, usually for minor offenses such as misdemeanor cases or civil matters below a certain dollar amount.

Eligibility Requirements
The candidate must be a resident of the county at the time of taking office and while holding office. The candidate must be a a graduate of a high school, a secondary school, or the equivalent and either be a lawyer admitted to practice in Kansas or able to pass an examination given by the Supreme Court to become certified within 18 months.
Filing Requirements
For non-retention candidates: filing fee of $1,421; OR number of signatures equalling 2% of the party's total voter registration for the district (for party candidates) or 4% of the total registered voters from the district (for independent candidates), PLUS filing fee of $70. For retention candidates: filing fee of $70.
