City Legislature

About this position

The City Council enacts rules, ordinances, and resolutions relating to all of the city’s affairs and government, including police, public health, public works such as water and sewer, and many more. There are five council districts in Portland and three at-large council positions. The council adopts an annual budget for both municipal and school operations and provides for an annual audit. The council appoints the city manager, corporation counsel, and city clerk.
