The City Legislature is the municipality's governing body, responsible for voting on ordinances and policies, and often is in charge of hiring a city manager.
Candidates must be eligible to vote in Minnesota, must have not filed for another office at the upcoming primary or general election, must be 21 years of age or more upon assuming office, and must have maintained residence in their district for at least 30 days before the general election. Filing Requirements
Filing fee: $2-$15. Petitions in place of filing fee: signature requirement of either 500 or 5% of the number of votes cast for the office at the previous general election, whichever is less. Nominating petitions: 10% of the total number of individuals voting in the political subdivision at the previous election, or 500 signatures, whichever is lesser.
