The City Legislature is the municipality's governing body, responsible for voting on ordinances and policies, and often is in charge of hiring a city manager.
To be elected a municipal judge, the candidate must be a qualified elector of the municipality within which he or she is running. A qualified elector is a United States citizen eighteen years of age or older who has resided in the municipality for at least thirty days prior to the election and who is registered to vote in the municipality. A municipal judge does not need to be an attorney.
