The U.S. House of Representatives is one of two chambers for the federal legislature. Representatives begin the legislation process, offer amendments, and serve on committees.
Representative must be at least twenty-five years old, have been a citizen of the United States for at least seven years, and be an inhabitant of the state they seek to represent.
Filing Requirements
Filing fee is $300; Filing fee for independent candidates only is 1% of total number of voters for the position in the previous election, or 250 eligible voters.
Paperwork Instructions
Submit paperwork to the Secretary of State's office if the district is comprised of more than one county; submit paperwork to the county clerk if the office is wholly contained in a single county.
