The City Attorney is responsible for appearing in judicial, administrative and other legal actions; issuing legal opinions to city officers; drafting ordinances, bonds, and other legal documents; prosecuting ordinance violations in municipal court; and providing a full range of legal services to various City departments, boards, and entities.
Candidate must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of the State; at least 18 years of age; a resident of the city for at least 1 year prior to election; a registered voter in the city. Candidate must not hold any other public office except as a notary or state militia member. Candidate must be an attorney-at-law admitted to practice in the state of Ohio.
Filing Requirements
Filing fee: $45. Petition signature requirement: For major party candidates: 50 signatures. For minor party candidates: 25 signatures. For independent candidates: signature requirements are based on the number of votes cast in the county in the last general election for governor. If the number of votes cast was fewer than 5,000, 25 signatures, or a number equal to 5 percent of the vote (whichever is less). If the number of votes cast was 5,000 or more, signatures equal to 1 percent of the vote.
