The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the municipality. They often preside over council meetings and may have the power to hire and fire heads of municipal departments.
A municipal elected official shall be a resident and a registered voter of the municipality in which he serves, and all councilmembers or trustees from wards shall be actual residents of their respective wards. No person shall be eligible for any elected office of the City of Tahlequah unless the person be a citizen of the United States and of the State of Oklahoma at least twenty-five (25) years of age, and a qualified voter in the City of Tahlequah, and shall have been immediately preceding election an actual resident of the City of Tahlequah.
