Job description

The County Superintendent of Schools is responsible for supporting elections for school district governing boards as well as working with those boards to provide needed services and resources, informing the public, and overseeing educational professional development and educational services. The County Superintendent of Schools makes decisions on consolidation, unification, overrides, and school district spending.

Eligibility requirements

Must be a resident of the county for at least one year prior to the date of taking office. Must be a qualified elector of the county. All candidates for county commission must reside in the district they seek to represent.

Filing requirements: Filing Fee (Major party candidates only): up to 2% of the annual salary for the office. Petition Signature Requirements (independent and minor party candidates only): 3% of the number of votes cast in the district for the office of governor in the last general election. Regardless of party affiliation, all candidates must complete and file "Statement of Economic Interest" and "Appointment of Principal Campaign Committee" forms either alongside their other requirements or within 5 days.
