Job description
The county sheriff is the sheriff of the courts, maintains public peace, and has custody of the county jail. As chief enforcement officer of the circuit courts, the sheriff's office, which includes the sheriff and deputies, is charged by constitutional and statutory laws with the execution of summons, enforcement of judgments, orders, injunctions, garnishments, attachments, and the making of arrests on warrants issued by the courts. The sheriff also opens and attends each term of circuit court, notifies residents selected to jury duty and assists in handling witnesses and prisoners during a given court term.
Eligibility requirements
Must posses qualifications of an elector, must be a U.S. citizen, must be an Arkansas resident, Must reside within their respective township, justice of the peace district, or county to be represented, Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age , Must be lawfully registered to vote, Must never have been convicted of embezzlement of public money, bribery, forgery, or other infamous crime

Filing requirements: Filing fee is set by the party county committee (party candidates). Petition signature requirements: 3% of the qualified electors in the county or township in which the candidate seeks office, based upon the total number of votes cast for Governor in that county or township at the last election, but in no event shall more than 2,000 signatures (independant candidates).
