Job description
The City Attorney is responsible for appearing in judicial, administrative and other legal actions; issuing legal opinions to city officers; drafting ordinances, bonds, and other legal documents; prosecuting ordinance violations in municipal court; and providing a full range of legal services to various City departments, boards, and entities.
Eligibility requirements
Must possess qualifications of an elector. Must be a U.S. citizen, must be an Arkansas resident, and must live in jurisdiction to be represented at time of filing and throughout term. Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age. Must be lawfully registered to vote. Must never have been convicted of embezzlement of public money, bribery, forgery, or other infamous crime. Must be a regularly licensed attorney.

Independent candidates: must file a petition, political practices pledge, and an affidavit of eligibility; the petition must be signed by not fewer than 30 electors of the ward or city in which the election is to be held.
