The City Legislature is the municipality's governing body, responsible for voting on ordinances and policies, and often is in charge of hiring a city manager.
Eligibility requirements
Candidate must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, a citizen of the United States, and otherwise qualified to vote at the annual municipal election; and no candidate for the office of Town Councilmember or Mayor shall have been convicted of a felony or a crime of moral turpitude; and at least four of the seven members of the Town Council must be residents of the Town; and any person who, on the date of filing of the notice of intention to run (or on the date of his/her appointment to office in the case of a vacancy) is not a "resident" of the Town but is a "freeholder" shall be deemed to be a "non-resident" member of the Town Council
