Job description

The City Legislature is the municipality's governing body, responsible for voting on ordinances and policies, and often is in charge of hiring a city manager.

Eligibility requirements

Any elector of the City who is a resident of the City, having physically resided therein for a period of at least one (1) year immediately prior to the time of qualifying is eligible

Paperwork instructions: Submit paperwork to the county supervisor of election's office.
Filing requirements: File a candidate's oath and a request that the candidate's name be printed on the next city election ballot, together with campaign finance reports required by F.S. SS 106.07, and a statement of financial interests required by F.S. SS 112.3145, if applicable, or copies in lieu of originals previously filed. Pay qualifying fee which is 1% of salary. Candidates for the city commission shall each be nominated by petition cards signed personally by not less than 150 qualified voters in the city in the exact manner as the signature of the qualified voter appears on the registration books of the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections. Signatures must be verified for a fee. Instead of paying qualifying fee, a Candidate may file petition cards containing the signatures of city electors equal in number to one percent of the total registered electors of the city and have them verified for a fee. Law requires that a candidate must also file the following: Form 1 Statement of Financial Interests, Loyalty Oath and Oath of Candidate (Form DS-DE 25 for Non Partisan Office), Appointment of Campaign Treasurer and Designation of Campaign Depository (Form DS-DE 9) and within 10 days file Statement of Candidate (Form DS-DE 84)
