Eligibility requirements
Must have been a resident of the county for at least two years prior to qualifying for election to the office. Must be a registered voter and must (unless serving as clerk on July 1, 1981) have attained the age of 25 years prior to the date of qualifying for election to the office. Must have obtained a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent. Must be a citizen of the United States. Must be a citizen of the state and must not have been convicted of a felony or any offense involving moral turpitude. Must file, in addition to the notice of candidacy, an affidavit with the officer before whom he or she qualifies to seek the office of clerk of superior court, prior to or at the time of qualifying, affirming that he or she meets the required qualifications for such office.

Write-in candidates only need complete a Notice of Intention and submit it to their respective election superintendent (or the state SoS if running for a state-level position) and publish it in a newspaper or official newsletter of general circulation before the Tuesday after the first Monday in September before the election in order to be considered eligible to hold office.
