Job description

The Sheriff is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the Circuit Court, Director of Safety and the Administrator of the County Jail. Main functions include: Provide basic police services to the unincorporated areas of the county. Maintain a complete record of all traffic accidents, arrest, investigations and complaints. Maintain security in the Courtrooms and Custodian of the Courthouse.

Eligibility requirements

Candidate must be a United States citizen, must be a resident of the county for 1 year, must be a registered voter in the county, and must not be a convicted felon.

Independent candidates: Not less than 5% nor more than 8% (or 50 more than the minimum, whichever is greater), signed by qualified voters of the county, of the total number of persons who voted at the last General Election in the county.
