Job description
The school board clarifies the district's purpose, connects with the community, employs a superintendent, delegates authority, monitors performance, and takes accountability for itself. Board members must receive a thorough board orientation, enforce district policy and legal responsibilities, and express opinions during meetings.
Eligibility requirements
In order to be eligible to hold the office of school board member, you shall be a qualified elector/registered voter and shall not be a child sex offender as defined in Section 11-9.3 of the Criminal Code of 2012. Any person who, on the date of election, is a U.S. citizen of the age of 18 or over and a resident of the State and the territory encompassing the district for one year preceding the election is eligible. A member cannot serve as a school trustee.
