An elector, as defined in MT 13-1-101, who resides in the district or any holder of title to lands within the district may file a declaration of candidacy for the office of trustee.

Filing requirements: Filing Fee: For offices having an annual salary of $2,500 or less and candidates for the legislature, $15; For county offices having an annual salary of more than $2,500, 0.5% of the total annual salary; For other offices having an annual salary of more than $2,500, 1% of the total annual salary; For offices in which compensation is paid in fees, $10; For officers of political parties, presidential electors, and officers who receive no salary or fees, no filing fee is required. If candidate is unable to pay filing fee; they must submit a petition containing signatures totalling 5% of the vote cast for the successful candidate for the same office at the last general election.
