Job description
Auditors are responsible for a broad range of administrative duties. Their primary duties are chief financial officer, elections officer and secretary to the county commission. Additional duties may include maintaining inventory of fixed assets, administering insurance coverage for county property, binding and storage of the official county newspaper as county record, and coordinating licenses and fees, such as hunting and fishing licenses, beer and liquor licenses, bingo and raffle permits, etc. In many counties, the Auditor assumes the duties of a human resources director.
Eligibility requirements
A person shall be eligible to the office of city commissioner if he or she is a qualified voter of the city and a resident of the city for at least 9 months preceding the election. (NDCC SS 40- 13-01).

Filing requirements: To appear on the ballot, a candidate must file a Petition. The forms are available from either the Secretary of State or the County Auditor. Petitions for regular county offices must contain signatures of not less than 2% of the votes cast for the same office in the last General Election; however no more than 300 signatures are required.
