Job description

The City Public Advocate is a non-voting member of the City Council with the right to introduce and co-sponsor legislation. The Public Advocate also provides oversight for city agencies, investigates citizens' complaints about city services, and makes proposals to address perceived shortcoming or failures of city services.

Candidate needs to be at least 18 years old and live in the district they want to represent at the time of the election.

Paperwork instructions: Submit paperwork to the County Board of Elections' office.
Filing requirements: Petitions must be signed by at least 5% of voters of the party residing within the said political unit, as determined by the preceding enrollment, or by at least 7,500 voters for any office to be filled by all voters of the city of New York; 4,000 voters for any office to be filled by all the voters of any county or borough within the city of New York; 1,500 voters for any office to be filled in the city of New York by all the voters of any municipal court district; 900 voters for any office to be filled in the city of New York by all the voters of any city council district; whichever is less.
