Job description

Local Court Judges are responsible for adjudicating cases in civil and criminal courts at the trial-level, such as small-claims court or drug court.

Eligibility requirements

Candidate must be no older than 70 years, a resident of the territorial jurisdiction of the court, have six years admitted to, and engaged in, the practice of law in this state, or prior service as a judge of a court of record in the United States, or both, be a registered elector in the territorial jurisdiction of the court, and must designate the term of office on the declaration of candidacy or nominating petition if more than one office of that court is to be elected.

Paperwork instructions: Submit paperwork to the County's Board of Elections office.
Filing requirements: Filing fee is $80 filing fee; signature requirement for major party candidates: 50 signatures. For minor party candidates: 25 signatures. For independent candidates: signature requirements are based on the number of votes cast in the county in the last general election for governor. If the number of votes cast was fewer than 5,000, 25 signatures, or a number equal to 5 percent of the vote (whichever is less). If the number of votes cast was 5,000 or more, signatures equal to 1 percent of the vote.
