Job description

The City Legislature is the municipality's governing body, responsible for voting on ordinances and policies, and often is in charge of hiring a city manager.

Eligibility requirements

qualified electors (registered voters) who have lived in the City continuously for one full year by the time of the election

Paperwork instructions: Submit paperwork to the City Clerk's office.
Filing requirements: The completed Form SEL 101 Filing of Candidacy for Nonpartisan Nomination is required to start the process. Upon submittal of this form to City Hall, the candidate will be assigned a Candidate/Petition I.D. number and given a SEL121 Petition for Non-partisan Nomination Signature to be signed by at least 10 Durham registered voters. When the candidate is ready to submit the SEL 101 and SEL 121 for review and verification, a SEL 338 Petition Submission - Candidate, Voters' Pamphlet is submitted.
