The City Legislature is the municipality's governing body, responsible for voting on ordinances and policies, and often is in charge of hiring a city manager.
Eligibility requirements
The Mayor and each Commissioner must be qualified voters under the laws of Texas and residents of the City of Ennis, to be free from all debts and taxes due to the City and must have resided within the limits of the City for, at least, two (2) years next before the election and must devote all such time as may be found necessary to fulfill the duties of their respective offices, and as the needs of the City may require. Each shall give bond, signed by two (2) or more good and sufficient sureties, in the sum of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00), conditioned for the faithful performance of duty; provided said bond may be made by any qualified solvent surety company doing business and licensed in Texas.
