Job description

The County Constable is the executive enforcement branch of the county justice courts. County Constables are peace officers responsible for law enforcement and also serve legal documents like restraining orders and warrants.

Eligibility requirements

Must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of Texas for one year, a resident of the district from which elected for 6 months prior to the filing deadline, and a registered voter in the area from which elected

Paperwork instructions: Submit paperwork to the applicable County Party Chair's office (major or minor parties); independent candidates submit paperwork with the County Judge's/Clerk's office.
Filing requirements: $375 filing fee. Petition signature requirements for Party candidates: Whichever is lesser, 500 signatures or 2% of the total vote received in the district, county, or precinct, as applicable, by all candidates for governor in the most recent gubernatorial general election, unless that number is under 50, in which case the required number of signatures is the lesser of: 50 or 20% of that total vote. Independent candidates: Whichever is lesser, 500 signatures or 5% of the total vote received in the district, county, or precinct, as applicable, by all candidates for governor in the most recent gubernatorial general election, unless that number is under 25, in which case the required number of signatures is the lesser of: 25 or 10% of that total vote.
