Job description

The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the municipality. They often preside over council meetings and may have the power to hire and fire heads of municipal departments.

Eligibility requirements

Each member of the City Council shall be a resident citizen of the City of Mission, shall be a qualified voter of the State of Texas, shall have been such resident citizen of the City of Mission for a period of not less than six (6) months immediately preceding his election, and shall not be indebted to the City of Mission at the time he takes office.

Filing requirements: Any person having the qualifications set forth for councilman in the city charter shall have the right to file an application to have his name placed on the official ballot as a candidate for any elective office. Such application in writing by such candidate and accompanied by his loyalty affidavit as prescribed by the laws of the State of Texas filed with the City Secretary not later than 5:00 p.m. of the 45th day before election day, shall entitle such applicant to a place on the official ballot.
