Job description

The City Legislature is the municipality's governing body, responsible for voting on ordinances and policies, and often is in charge of hiring a city manager.

Eligibility requirements

Only qualified voters of the City, who shall have maintained residents [residence] for a minimum of one (1) full year in the City prior to the election of the place for the Commission being sought, shall be eligible to hold the place of the City Commission. After being elected City Commission Member shall maintain residence while serving on the Commission.

Filing requirements: Any qualified person who desires to become a candidate for election to a place on the City Commission shall file with the City Secretary an application in accordance with the general laws of the State of Texas as now existing, or as hereinafter amended, for the holding of municipal elections, for his name to appear on the ballot. Such application shall contain a sworn statement by the candidate that he is fully qualified under governing laws and the provisions of the city charter to hold the office he seeks. (Amended by Ord. 13-31 at an election held on November 5, 2013, amendment no. 8) A candidate must designate the place on the ballot for which said person is a candidate.
