The City Legislature is the municipality's governing body, responsible for voting on ordinances and policies, and often is in charge of hiring a city manager.

Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must be a qualified voter and resident of the municipality, reside in thje municipality 3 months before election, are not a defaulter to the municipality. Alderman candidates must be registered voters and residents of the ward they are running for when nominated.
Filing Requirements
No filing fee; Petition signature requirement of a minimum of 5% of the registered voters of the municipality based upon the number of registered voters recorded by the county auditor on the second Tuesday of January of the year of the election. No more than 50 signatures required.
