About this position
The Local Court of Appeals Judge is responsible for hearing cases in that have been decided by lower courts. Judges in the Court of Appeals will hear cases if the fine assessed against the defendant exceeds $100 and the judgment is affirmed by the appellate court; or the sole issue is the constitutionality of the statute or ordinance on which a conviction is based.

Eligibility Requirements
Candidates for Municipal Judge shall have been an El Paso City residents for the 12 months next preceding the election, licensed to practice law in Texas, and at least 21 years of age.
Filing Requirements
An application and filing fee must be submitted to the City Secretary. Filing Fee is $250; In lieu of the payment of a filing fee, any person qualified for an elective office may become a candidate by petition of 25 qualified voters who are eligible to vote for that candidate or one-half of one percent of the total vote received in the territory from which the office is elected by all candidates for mayor in the most recent mayoral general election.
