Eligibility Requirements

Candidate must be a U.S. citizen, a Texas resident for at least 1 year, a resident of the county for at least 6 months, registered to vote in the county, at least 18 years old, and a practicing lawyer or judge in the Texas.

Filing Requirements

Filing fee is $750 if county has a population of less than 200,000, otherwise filing fee is $1,250; signature requirement is 0. Alternatively, filing fee is 0, signature requirement is the lesser of 2% of registered voters or 500 signatures.

Paperwork Instructions

Submit paperwork to the applicable County Party Chair's office (major or minor parties); independent candidates submit paperwork with the County Judge's/Clerk's office.
