Why I’m Running for Office

"I am running because I believe public service should ultimately be about people. Every community is made up of individuals and families who deserve to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. Government can sometimes become focused on numbers, politics, and bureaucracy, while losing sight of the people those decisions affect. I want to help bring that human perspective back into local government. I believe a strong community is one where people can feel safe, have a voice in the decisions that affect them, and have the opportunity to build a good life. That means being responsible with taxpayers' money, planning thoughtfully for growth, maintaining our infrastructure, supporting public safety, and making sure residents are heard. But public service should also involve compassion. Not every problem can be solved by simply passing another policy or spending more money. Sometimes it means listening to someone who feels ignored, helping a neighbor navigate a difficult situation, or recognizing that behind every issue is a real person with their own circumstances and struggles. I am running because I want to serve my community, not because I believe I have all the answers, but because I am willing to listen, learn, work with people who disagree with me, and approach public service with humility. I believe politics works best when we remember that we are ultimately serving our neighbors. My goal is to contribute to a community that is not only prosperous and well-managed, but also compassionate, welcoming, and worthy of the people who call it home." - Sean Matteson
