Education Alexis has always been a strong advocate for historically Black colleges and universities—fighting for federal investments, research funding, and job placement programs that support HBCU students and alumni. Defense / Veterans She will champion mental health care, suicide prevention, and PTSD support services tailored to the needs of all veterans, including women and LGBTQ veterans. Defense / Veterans Alexis will fight to improve VA care across the board, from reducing wait times to expanding access to specialists. Environment / Energy Increase Federal Investment in Chesapeake Bay restoration by expanding funding through the EPA’s Chesapeake Bay Program. Education She will expand job training programs in partnership with HBCUs, trade schools, and community colleges like Prince George’s Community College and the College of Southern Maryland. Wages / Job Benefits Alexis supports raising the federal minimum wage to at least 17 per hour, indexed to inflation and regional cost of living. Defense / Veterans Alexis will increase funding for affordable housing and strengthen VA housing assistance programs to ensure no veteran is left unhoused. Environment / Energy Support Sustainable Farming by incentivizing conservation practices that reduce agricultural runoff into the Bay. Infrastructure / Transportation Infrastructure Upgrades in stormwater systems and outdated sewage lines to prevent overflow into waterways. Healthcare She will fight for increased subsidies to reduce premiums and out-of-pocket costs, and she supports automatic enrollment options to close gaps in coverage. Infrastructure / Transportation Accelerate the Southern Maryland Rapid Transit (SMRT) project to create a dedicated light rail line connecting Waldorf, White Plains, and Branch Avenue Metro. Education Fully fund Title I schools to ensure every child—regardless of neighborhood—has access to quality teachers, resources, and safe learning environments. Infrastructure / Transportation Increase funding for rural and suburban bus systems so all residents—especially seniors and low-income workers—can access essential services. Healthcare She will work to expand Medicaid in every state and protect Medicare from privatization. Economy Alexis will cut red tape and expand access to federal capital and grants for small and minority-owned businesses, especially in underserved areas like Brandywine, Indian Head, and Lexington Park. Infrastructure / Transportation Expand the MARC Train and Metro Access for Southern Maryland commuters, including extended hours and more reliable service to stations in Prince George’s and Charles Counties. Healthcare Alexis supports expanding the Affordable Care Act and introducing a public option that gives every American the ability to choose high-quality, affordable health coverage. Environment / Energy Environmental Justice for Forgotten Areas like parts of Brandywine, Baden, and Indian Head—where industrial development has outpaced environmental protection. Education Support culturally responsive curricula and mental health resources in schools, especially for students of color.
