Environment / Energy It is unacceptable for the people of Louisville to not have clean air to breathe. We need to invest in maintaining a clean environment and upgrading our infrastructure to ensure our people are granted these basic rights. These investments, beyond improving the lives of constituents, create sustainable jobs. Education Investing in and protecting education is a matter of equity and justice. Instead of actively working to eliminate DEI initiatives in our public colleges and universities, the state legislature should fully fund our public schools. Education Our public school system in Louisville is under attack. The state legislature’s idea to break up our district into four separate systems would effectively lead to resegregation. Infrastructure / Transportation Gentrification is harming our community. People are being pushed out of their neighborhoods and homes. We need protections that ensure the residents of Senate District 33 can continue to live and thrive here. Infrastructure / Transportation People need substantial public transportation infrastructure to work and to thrive all across Kentucky, including right here in Louisville. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Education and public safety go hand-in-hand. Investing in education is proven to improve public safety, as are afterschool programs. Rather than re-segregating our district, investing in education will improve our public safety for decades to come. Criminal Justice / Public Safety The “Safer Kentucky Act” is a threat to the people of Louisville. It would effectively criminalize homelessness and poverty. Homelessness and poverty are not crimes: they are a failing of the system. We need to support people, not punish them, and create safety net programs to protect our most vulnerable. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Police must respect the peoples’ constitutional rights and undergo real transformation to ensure this happens. One tool of accountability that we have is the police bill of rights which must be met with scrutiny and updated to reflect a police force that works with and for the people. Drug Policy Failed drug policies continue to have tragic consequences, cutting lives short, devastating families, and changing communities. We need to urgently turn to harm reduction strategies, which are proven to be more effective at preventing deaths and tackling addiction, much more effective than incarceration. Abortion / Contraception Public health is a human right! We deserve reproductive justice in all of its forms. Black maternal health has long been overlooked with tragic consequences. We need to urgently invest in supporting expecting new Black mothers and their babies. Housing Exploitative landlords need to be held accountable. Rising rents and poor management of homes is a crisis that should not be allowed to continue unchecked. Housing I grew up in the projects of Beecher Terrace and know that folks deserve to be treated with dignity and respect wherever they live. I will continue to stand with and follow the direction of Tenant Unions across our state who are leading the way on tenant rights.
