Criminal Justice / Public Safety Homelessness, drug use, and violent crime have residents wondering if they can walk the streets of their own city safely. Our officials need to take that seriously. Betsy wants to keep violent offenders in jail and make Salem a place of healing for those struggling with mental illness and drug addiction by getting them real, life-changing treatment. Housing As your city councilor, she’ll fight for more housing options that meet the needs of working families and young people so no one is forced to leave Salem in search of an affordable place to live. She opposes efforts to raise taxes on your paychecks and property. Taxes / Budget Betsy has helped countless families start small businesses and hire workers. She’ll stand up to politicians who think they can tax us into prosperity and she'll advocate for policies that empower families to achieve the American dream. Betsy understands Salem is strong only when both its workers and businesses are healthy. Housing Goal is for every person to have the opportunity to reclaim their dignity and become self-sufficient to end the cycle of homelessness on our streets.
