Past Experience

I’m a lifelong Salt Lake County resident, small business owner, and licensed clinical social worker who has dedicated my career to helping people in our community. I’ve worked in Midvale’s homeless shelter, on the crisis line, and now in my own private practice, supporting residents through life’s toughest challenges. I know what it’s like to balance full-time work and school, face rising housing costs, and build a life here from the ground up. I’m running for mayor to bring practical, people-first solutions to housing, community safety, small business growth, and public spaces—because Midvale works best when it works for everyone.

Who I'm Running Against

Dustin Gettel (Democrat Party)

Dustin Gettel grew up in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, a small town best known for its famous potato rolls. From a young age, he was drawn to public policy and government, eventually earning a Master of Jurisprudence with a focus on healthcare law from Delaware Law School in 2009. His passion for public service led him to work in policy and advocacy, with a focus on making government more responsive and accountable to the people it serves. In 2015, Dustin relocated to Utah and quickly fell in love with the state's stunning landscapes, the welcoming community, and the crisp mountain air. Settling in Midvale, he became actively involved in local issues. One defining moment came when he had a near-miss with a speeding car while walking to the Bingham Junction TRAX station. Frustrated by the city’s slow response to safety concerns, he pushed for a crosswalk at the dangerous intersection—only to encounter an unresponsive municipal government. That experience motivated him to run for city council in 2017, where he defeated an incumbent with 60% of the vote. He was re-elected in 2021 with 75%. During his time on the council, Dustin led efforts to revitalize Midvale’s Main Street, improve government transparency, and enact a paid parental and caregiver leave policy for city employees. He also helped launch the city’s curbside glass recycling program and worked to keep property taxes among the lowest in Salt Lake County while ensuring responsible growth and development. His leadership extended beyond Midvale, serving on key regional boards, including the Unified Police Department Board of Directors, the Unified Fire Authority Board of Directors, Shelter the Homeless, and the Jordan River Commission. In December 2024, Dustin was appointed Mayor of Midvale, bringing his years of experience and dedication to the city’s highest office. As Mayor, he remains focused on smart growth, expanding redevelopment efforts, investing in public safety, and advocating for Midvale’s unsheltered population. He is also working to improve walkability, add more bike lanes and crosswalks, and expand access to the Jordan River Trail. When he’s not working to improve Midvale, Dustin enjoys hiking, reading true crime books, listening to podcasts, and playing board and strategy games. He’s also a proud dog, cat, and plant dad. With a deep love for his community, Dustin is committed to making Midvale a better place for residents, businesses, and future generations.
