Environment / Energy For current and future Town residents to enjoy long term value, sustainability and enjoyment of the natural beauty and resources with which the Town has been blessed those resources must be protected and promoted. One lynchpin of protection and promotion is education of Town residents and users of the Town’s natural resources. The Town must continue to focus on education and promotion of individual respect for the natural resources of the Town and those who enjoy those natural resources. Taxes / Budget Town budgets and expenditures should be readily and easily available online for residents without the need to make an open records request. The audit reports of the Town’s auditors should also be available to the public so that the Town’s financial status is the subject of accountability to residents of the Town. Infrastructure / Transportation I believe the next steps in cutting red tape needs to be the Town, working with the County, to reduce the amount of time necessary to obtain permitting for projects in the Town. The length of time to obtain permits and the hassles that Town residents face when trying to obtain permits – primarily from the County, is unacceptable. The Town needs to work with and put pressure on the County to streamline this process. Taxes / Budget It is critical for the Town Board to keep property taxes under control, and to allow the Town the flexibility to borrow money for projects that would benefit the Town in the long haul. That is impossible right now. Taxes / Budget How did the Town get to a financial cliff? The answer is pretty simple. The Town’s borrowing pattern in the past several years has grown exponentially. The reason, the Town has borrowed money to pay for ordinary operations of the Town, like paying salaries and benefits. Borrowing to pay salaries and benefits is not sustainable. Any business that borrowed in that way would go bankrupt. The same thing is true for the Town.
