Fun Fact

Past Experience
I’m a proud Coloradan, a mom, and a doctor of clinical psychology. For over 15 years, I’ve led a correctional mental health unit, serving individuals facing serious mental illness, addiction, and homelessness. I also run a private practice in Arvada supporting first responders and train future mental health professionals—because I believe in leaving things better than I found them. More important than any title or credential is this: I love living in Arvada. I’m raising my kids here because it’s a place where people look out for each other, and where the diversity of experiences—from amazing local food and deep farming roots to outdoor adventures and meaningful community events—makes it vibrant and full of life. I’m thrilled to bring my strong social service background to Arvada because I truly believe that’s what we need right now. We need a strong person who can make tough decisions with a level head. I care about people, about fairness, and about solutions that make sense. Do I know all the ins and outs of politics? No. Am I polished and rehearsed? Not exactly. But if you ask people who know me, they’ll probably say I’ve got grit, I’m sharp, and I own my blind spots. That’s what I bring to the table—real-life experience, hard work, and heart. I hope to earn your support one vote at a time, and I plan to do just that. If that sounds like the kind of person you’d want representing you, I’d be honored to earn your vote and I would love to learn more about you and what you care about so I can best represent our amazing Arvada!
My Top Issues
Mixed-income neighborhoods
As someone who has spent over 15 years working with individuals affected by poverty, addiction, and incarceration, I know that mixed-income neighborhoods can help break cycles of disadvantage. When people of different backgrounds live side by side, it fosters connection, expands opportunity, and creates stronger, more inclusive communities—something I deeply believe in.
Addressing substance abuse and mental health issues
With over 15 years of firsthand experience working in correctional settings, I’ve seen how deeply intertwined substance use and mental health issues are—and how often they go untreated. I believe in a compassionate, evidence-based approach that meets people where they are and gives them a real chance at recovery and stability. This isn’t just policy for me—it’s personal and rooted in years of walking alongside those most affected.
Clean and safe streets
Working in corrections, I’ve seen the impact that neglected neighborhoods and unsafe streets can have on individuals and communities. I believe every resident deserves to feel safe walking their streets, with clean public spaces that reflect pride and care. Investing in safety and cleanliness isn’t just about appearance—it’s about dignity, prevention, and community well-being.
Who I'm Running Against
Mike Griffith (Democrat Party)
Mike Griffith’s journey has taken him from the bayous of Louisiana to the heart of Arvada—but no matter where he’s lived, one truth has always guided him: strong communities are built on connection and accessibility.
Growing up across Florida and Louisiana, Mike experienced life in all kinds of neighborhoods—from apartment complexes and trailer parks to wooded rural towns and busy suburbs. That diversity shaped his belief that every person deserves a say in how their city grows—and access to the spaces and services that make life work.
Mike met his wife, Abby, while earning his Bachelor’s in Landscape Architecture at LSU. Together, they moved to Colorado, where Mike completed dual Master’s degrees in Landscape Architecture and Urban Design at CU Denver. They fell in love with Arvada, settled in a historic home on W. 62nd Avenue, and started their family.
Today, Mike and Abby are raising three young children in Arvada. As a dad, designer, and active member of the Arvada community, Mike is committed to city-sized solutions for city-sized issues—planning smarter, growing sustainably, and making sure every Arvada resident feels welcome, heard, and represented.
