Occupation

Former Teacher and Current Stay-at-Home Parent

Fun Fact

I am a stay-at-home parent to my 3.5 year old daughter. We spend most days going to public parks and libraries to give her learning and social experiences. Outside of that, I love to ballroom dance and hope to find time to start competing again one day. I am an avid reader. I enjoy fantasy and sci-fi, but have been on a big non-fiction kick lately.

Past Experience

I was a public school teacher for almost 6 years. I have a Masters Degree in Education. I have worked at private charter schools, huge public high schools, and small public magnet middle and high schools. My experiences in education and my commitment to learning ever-more about child development and education make me a logical pick for school board.

My Top Issues

Enhancing transparency and accountability

School systems should be the most transparent, accessible, and communicative entity that exist. No one wants to send their children to a system when they have no idea what decisions are being made or why the leadership is making those choices. I think it is the job of the school board to communicate openly, frequently, and accessibly to the entire community that it serves.

Collaborating with schools and community organizations

Schools should be a place where ALL students feel safe, no exceptions. The processes for handling bullying and violence need to be redesigned to actually address the issues, protect victims, and prevent future incidents. Additionally, no federal directive that directly harms students should be upheld and complied with by the school system. Student safety is more important than 8% of our budget.
