Top Issues

Criminal Justice / Public Safety Public safety is one of the most fundamental responsibilities of city leadership, and Josh is committed to ensuring our neighborhoods are safe and secure for all residents. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Advocate for the implementation and support of modern technology to empower law enforcement in identifying and apprehending criminals more effectively and efficiently. Infrastructure / Transportation Prioritize increasing resources for paving roads and repairing potholes to improve the quality of San Diego’s streets. Well-maintained infrastructure not only ensures smoother commutes but also enhances safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike. Housing Expedite development of housing near transit hubs, schools, and underutilized City-owned properties to create family-friendly communities. Lower housing costs by streamlining regulations and encouraging diverse housing types. Revitalizing the Midway District represents a generational opportunity to transform underutilized land into vibrant mixed-use neighborhoods with housing, parks, entertainment, and economic opportunity. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Invest in infrastructure that mitigates rising sea levels, coastal erosion, and flooding. This includes seawall maintenance, natural shoreline restoration, and resilient urban planning. Work with regional and state agencies to secure funding for climate adaptation and disaster preparedness in coastal zones. Taxes / Budget Only 18 cents of every dollar we pay in property taxes stays in San Diego, and that’s not enough to fund basic services. Before we talk about new revenue, we need accountability for how current dollars are spent. Josh will fight to ensure San Diego receives its fair share from the state and county, and that every city dollar goes to core services: filling potholes, paving roads, and keeping neighborhoods safe. Education Partner with local colleges and universities to build and retain a competitive talent pipeline by connecting students, faculty, researchers, and engineers to local career opportunities. Economy Expand resources and grants for small businesses to foster local economic growth. Focus on revitalizing neighborhood business districts with accessible retail, services, and community spaces. Economy Position our city as a premier destination by investing in public spaces, safety, cultural events, and infrastructure that make visitors feel welcome and residents proud. Social Services Create a streamlined, public/private collaborative system that centralizes accountability and enables a more coordinated and effective response to homelessness, reducing the City’s role as the sole responder. Taxes / Budget From the botched trash bin rollout to the Balboa Park parking fees, San Diegans are paying more and getting less. Josh will demand transparency and accountability for every fee and every dollar before asking taxpayers for anything more. Residents and businesses deserve to know the true cost of living in San Diego, year to year, without surprises. Infrastructure / Transportation Decrease the time it takes to repair broken streetlights by investing in better systems for reporting, tracking, and resolving outages. Well-lit streets contribute to both public safety and a sense of community pride.
