Taxes / Budget Despite annual budget increases, Alaska schools remain ranked 49th out of 50 for academic achievement. Kay understands that throwing money at the problem is not the answer. On the school board, Kay will fight for transparency and accountability when it comes to the allocation of resources. Education Like parents across Alaska, Kay believes that parents should be in control of their children’s education. This includes giving parents the opportunity to choose where they send their children to school. Kay will support local, publicly funded schools and fight to cut burdensome red tape that prevents parents from having a say in what their children learn and where they go to school. Education Kay will work directly with schools and principals to ensure that our students are getting the best education possible. Kay believes that it is the role of principals and educators to tailor lesson plans for their students, not the school board. Taxes / Budget The mother of three children, Kay, understands how important access to athletics and clubs is for our children and believes they are fundamental to molding students with the necessary life skills to be college or work-ready. Instead of cutting extracurriculars and sports, Kay will be a vocal advocate for smart fiscal decisions to protect the integrity of after-school programs.
