Housing On Oahu State owned rental apartments maybe the way to go since flat open areas are very limited. I will check further. One of the options I have considered is to make rental units available to be purchased by a family by combining two or three units as a family grows in number and financially. I envision these rental units to be built from Nui Valley all the way to Wailua in the valleys above the single-family houses. I have a structural idea where the slopes of the valleys will not be significantly disturbed Housing To satisfy the housing demand for median to lower income families I have two plans. The first plan is to develop single family house lots using state owned lands on Hawaii, Maui, Molokai, Oahu and Kauai. I have not yet identified state owned lands on Oahu due to the scarcity and practicality of building more single family homes. First plan is to develop single family lots. Housing I will develop low priced lots on each island from lands owned by the State of Hawaii. The lots will be serviced with gravel roads, but with today's ingenuity for off gid living each family will not have to rely on public utilities. Most of the lots in Puna started out this way and has been the fastest growing in the State of Hawaii for several years. The best part of my plan is I will try to sell a lot to a local person for about $50,000.00. As long as a person has been working for at least two years even at minimum wage and have decent credit, they could own their own home even if it's a studio. To start, build within your means but design your starter home to eventually be your castle. Mortgage payments, insurance, and real property taxes could be lower than market rent payments.
