Fun Fact
Music is my passion. My mom bribed me to audition for the concert choir as a freshman in high school and I haven't stopped singing since. While I seriously love all genres of music, I am a Deadhead at heart. My favorite lyrics come from their song 'Uncle John's Band.' It says "The first days are the hardest days, but don't you worry anymore, cuz when life looks like easy street, there is danger at your door." My life, like most people I know, has been anything but easy. Raising 7 kids, running a successful business and serving the community has brought challenges I never could have imagined facing, but I have learned to love a challenge. I have come to believe that, if I am not pushing through some sort of challenge, something is wrong and 'danger' is at the door.
Past Experience
My wife and I made the decision to move to Clearfield over 27 years ago. Given the opportunity by my employer to live anywhere from Ogden to Provo, we chose Clearfield. It was a place we felt we could raise our family and feel a part of the community. I got involved with the Planning Commission and then the City Council and have served as Mayor for nearly 12 years. I truly love Clearfield. I love the people that live here and with me call Clearfield home. Change is hard to accept. Growth is difficult and brings challenges, but we have faced those challenges and continue to change how others see our city. There is still more to be done. We have a City Council made up of amazing, dedicated people who love this city as much as I do and I am anxious to continue to work along side them.
My Top Issues
Path to home ownership
Clearfield has provided plenty of housing options over the years, but I want to ensure that, if people want to own a home, they can. A lot of people want to rent, and that is perfectly fine, but I want to make sure they have the opportunity to own a home and start building wealth.
Attracting and retaining businesses
We have added a lot of housing and improved our image. The business community is starting to take notice. We need to focus on bringing the right businesses to the city and support those that are here.
Private/public community revitalization efforts
While our major corridors through the city have really started to take shape and change the image of Clearfield, I can't say the same for our neighborhoods. I want to work with our residents and other to begin to clean up and revitalize our neighborhoods. Code enforcement isn't the most effective way to generate change.
