Salem-Keizer 24J School Board - Zone 7 (At Large)

Salem-Keizer School District 24J, OR
about role
School Board Members establish a shared vision for the schools that they represent which reflects a consensus of the board, community and district staff. The school board has a wide variety of additional responsibilities, such as adopting annual budgets and issuing interim financial reports, adopting the school calendar, negotiating contracts with employees (including the hiring of superintendents), approving curriculum materials and closing or constructing schools. Oregon school boards are often composed of 5 to 7 members, and the candidate must be a registered elector within the district for a minimum of 180 days prior to the election.

Voter Issues

Top Issues

Issue 1 - Government Reform
As a school board member, I will strongly support the Sense of Belonging initiatives to ensure all students feel safe and included. Our students and educators spend seven hours a day, five days a week at school—they deserve to be their true selves and experience a supportive community during that time.
Issue 2 - Education
One of my core priorities is literacy: celebrating it, encouraging it, and providing opportunities for improvement. We all know that reaching literacy benchmarks is critical to our students’ future success, and I want our community to embrace books and give kids a reason to love reading.
