Infrastructure / Transportation Standardize the speed limit to 25mph in all of downtown. Taxes / Budget Implement a 1% Land Value Tax (LVT) on non-residential property to pay for bus rapid transit (BRT) and free bus service in densely populated areas. Infrastructure / Transportation Create safer streets in front of schools, making it safer for kids to walk and bike to school. Protected bike lanes on school roads, improved road designs to discourage speeding, and stricter enforcement of road laws in school zones. Economy Allow small local retail sales (maximum 1,000 revenue per month) in every neighborhood. This means legalizing yard sales, kids lemonade stands, and home crafters or bakers selling their products from their own homes. Infrastructure / Transportation Expand protected bike lanes and greenways. Housing Legalize ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units), allowing more housing choices for families. Simplify zoning code to allow more types of housing and retail, allowing neighborhoods to develop more character and charm. Infrastructure / Transportation Provide bus service from downtown to the airport, lowering the cost to travel out of HSV airport by avoiding airport parking fees. Infrastructure / Transportation Add bus routes and improve service speed in high foot traffic areas such as along Clinton Ave, connecting downtown, the VBC, Campus 805, and Stovehouse. Infrastructure / Transportation Permanently close a small section of Church Street to car traffic that divides Big Spring Park. This will make it safer for families to cross, effectively expanding the park, while still being available space to use for events (such as for Food Truck Fridays).
