Education Third, we need to make sure ALL our students are receiving the best education possible. We have a very diverse district and it is hard to address all the needs with such diversity. In Precinct 4 alone we have a great deal of diversity. My priority is to give a voice to those communities who are underrepresented and to make sure that they receive the same educational opportunities afforded to students in other areas of our district and of our state. We need to create goals and policy that support realizing these goals of ensuring a great education for all our kids. Wages / Job Benefits Second, when we support our teachers, we attract and retain great teachers. These skilled educators are instrumental in helping our students become successful lifelong learners. We should support new teachers with mentors and instructional coaches to assist as they develop teaching strategies for a successful classroom. Granite District needs to be competitive with other districts in attracting teachers. Salary and benefits must be sustainable to the district but also competitive with other districts. It is only when we have the best teachers that we can offer the best education to our kids. Criminal Justice / Public Safety My first priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of our students physically, socially and emotionally. Buildings should be safe and in good condition. We need support systems in place for our students so that they are able to deal with difficult situations in a healthy way. Bullying and suicide are on the rise among our youth throughout the state. Bullying should be addressed with a strong policy in place that is enforced consistently. We need to make sure teachers are trained to recognize students in crisis while also providing the support staff necessary to help these students.
