Education But most importantly in difficult times, there’s no room for divisiveness, we need to focus on uniting to find the best solutions to these actual difficult problems we face. Education To take on this hard work in the coming years, we need leadership that will put students first, leadership that wants to listen to the students, educators, and families of our district, and leadership with compassion for all constituents. We must listen to what our educators and staff have been trying for years to share with us; what do they need to optimize student learning, and what do they need to stay in their jobs, in a state with such widespread teacher retention issues. Education We need to keep working with our state legislators to meaningfully raise our BSA, as they are constitutionally mandated to provide education services, to keep up with the inflation our schools face, just like our families do. We also need to look at the unequal divide between required contributions, which so adversely effects us in the Borough, while not effecting our neighbors in Delta, for example. Education We need strong partnerships with local trades and organizations to answer these questions. We need strong partnerships, period. Whether this means working with all parties in Juneau, working with private businesses, colleges and labor unions in our communities - we must always ask first, how do we best work together to solve our issues and support our students with opportunities and meaningful jobs. Education We also need leaders who will advocate for funding for our schools so that our students thrive in this changing world they are growing up in.
