The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the municipality. They often preside over council meetings and may have the power to hire and fire heads of municipal departments.
A candidate must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age, a registered voter, and a city resident. Additionally, a candidate must either not have a felony conviction or must have presented the governor with a certificate verifying the completion of the sentence and have been granted a pardon or a certificate by the governor restoring their full rights of citizenship.
Filing Requirements
Declaration of Candidacy, Campaign Checking Account Registration Form, and copy of a letter to candidate's financial institution authorizing the release of information concerning their campaign account to the city clerk, and Written Authorization for Designation form (if someone files on behalf of the candidate). Within two (2) days of filing the Declaration of Candidacy, each candidate shall file a notarized statement with the City Clerk, signed by the candidate under oath, setting forth any known present business relationship the candidate has or may have with the City.
