The City Legislature is the municipality's governing body, responsible for voting on ordinances and policies, and often is in charge of hiring a city manager.
A municipal elected official shall be a resident and a registered voter of the municipality in which he serves, and all councilmembers or trustees from wards shall be actual residents of their respective wards. Only qualified registered voters of the city of Perkins who have been registered to vote within the city of Perkins for a period of six (6) months immediately preceding the date of filing shall be qualified for the offices of mayor and commissioners and they shall have these qualifications from and after the time when they file for office or are selected to fill vacancies. Neither the mayor nor any other commissioner may hold any office or position in the city government by virtue of appointment by the city manager. No person, whether such person be the mayor or commissioner, shall hold office for a period of longer than two (2) consecutive full three (3) year terms of office which term shall not include the time served in filling any unexpired term of office.
