Job description
The mayor shall preside at meetings of the council, shall be recognized as head of the city government, for all ceremonial purposes, by the governor for purposes of military law, for service of process, execution of contracts, deeds and other documents and as the city official designated to represent the city in all agreements with other governmental entities or certifications to other governmental entities, but shall have no administrative duties except as required to carry out the responsibilities herein.

Petitions shall contain the residence, address and precinct of each signer. (c) Pay to the city a filing fee in the amount of twenty-five dollars ($25.00). The filing fee of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) shall be paid by all candidates simultaneous to the declaration of the seat and office which they seek, and no candidate's packets will be issued until the fee is paid. This filing fee will be nonrefundable whether or not the candidate withdraws or fails to qualify through petition. Law also requires that a candidate must also file the following: Form 1 Statement of Financial Interests, Loyalty Oath and Oath of Candidate (Form DS-DE 25 for Non Partisan Office), Appointment of Campaign Treasurer and Designation of Campaign Depository (Form DS-DE 9) and within 10 days file Statement of Candidate (Form DS-DE 84)
