Eligibility requirements

A Council Member shall be a citizen of the State of Louisiana and the United States, a qualified elector, and a bonafide resident of and legally domiciled in a ward and precinct within the District from which said Parish Council Member is required to be elected for at least the last one year before he may qualify for such office. A Council Member shall continue to be legally domiciled and to reside within the district from which elected during his term of office. Should the legal domicile or actual residence of a Council Member change from the district from which elected, unless the District is changed by reapportionment, or should the Council Member cease to be a qualified voter thereof, the office shall automatically become vacant, which vacancy shall be filled as set out herein. The Parish Council, by Ordinance, shall define the scope and format of the financial disclosure statement. Each candidate shall possess the qualifications of a Parish Council member required by section 4.02 (A) and (C) at the time he files his notice of candidacy or nomination papers, or consent to be voted for, in any primary or general election.
