Job description
The Board Members are elected at large from the district for a four year term and governs on behalf of the citizens of Braddock, Braddock Hills, Chalfant, Churchill, East Pittsburgh, Edgewood, Forest Hills, North Braddock, Rankin, Swissvale, Turtle Creek and Wilkins. Once a year, the Board selects among its members for positions of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Board is responsible for representing the public interest, establishing policies that define the institutional mission, hiring and evaluating the CEO, assuring fiscal health and stability, and advocating and protecting the district.
Eligibility requirements
To be elected to a Pennsylvania school board, one must be a citizen, at least 18 years old, of good moral character, and a resident of the school district for at least one year prior to the date of election or appointment. The Pennsylvania Constitution bars from public office anyone who has been convicted of what the Constitution calls an “infamous crime." Directors may not be employed by, or doing business with, the district where they are elected or appointed, subject to certain exceptions.
